Manhattan View from Brooklyn~

Today I woke up at 7.30am. I took a shower, cooked some noodles, and then changed for school. I woke up extra-early...like 2 hours earlier than I usually do for an 11am class because I needed to finish my HW. So I went down to the basement, to the cyber lounge to use the laser printer so my work would look better than my crappy printer at my dorm. As usually, it took me around 15 min to log in -.-... so I finally logged in...and when I tried to print, guess what... the printer wasn't working!!! I was so pissed cuz I wasted my time...I didn't want to be late for class...so my plan B was to go quickly to the School lab and get it printed there...before heading for school..I needed to trace something for my Advertising class (3.pm)....since I wouldn't have time to do it in my 1-hour break...  I went to the workroom and traced it as quickly as possible...I rushed to school afterwards and fortunately, I did manage to be on time for class!

In class, we had our critics for our hws. Mine was good, I just need to modify a word and make some adjustments, but overall he liked it and I'm happy with that. Today, he asked us why do we want to go to this field? (graphic design). He said because it is a lifestyle, either you like it or don't. It is stressful, but you love it, you love your work and you really have to enjoy and be prepared to deal with all the pressure and the deadlines. He showed us his portfolio and I must say it was incredible. Then he said he got a job 5 days after graduation from school (also in FIT) and that is amazing. I hope I can have the same luck in the future. So this make me think if I really want this, and well the answer is definitely YES! After seeing his work I really picture myself doing all those posters/paper magazine/billboards, and I do like it. I like challenges, and solving design problems. Comparing this class to my advertising class... I know I'd rather go to GD instead of AD by far... hahaha... no ofense por Patty's that really wants to go to AD, but I knoe it is not for me.... my mind gets really exhausted when it is out of ideas...too many headlines, and I'm not a very good "seller". You really have to come with CLEVER out-of-the-box ideas. And I'm definitely not a person of words and improvisation. I'm not saying that you don't need those things for GD, you definitely do, but IMO it is applied in a very different way. You do have to learn to speak because you are selling your design, but my point is that in GD you are focusing more in Type and design to communicate something, while in AD it is more about the concept. If the concept doesn't work, then your ad sucks! no matter how beautiful it looks, it won't sell. Creativity and originality are applied in both fields, but in a very different way. One is about aesthetics, form and function; while the other is about Concept and the way you present/communicate the message.

Plus...my english vocabulary is not that good, so it is kinda hard for me. It is a disadvantage because as an international student, culturally I think differently, and there might be some expressions that I don't get or I don't know how to express it in English. In GD on the other hand, it is more about graphic language, which I really like and feel more comfortable with.

Argh....I tried to buy my flight ticket today...I almost bought the wrong one -.- I got confused with the dates... it seems like my first day of classes (SPRING 2009) is Jan 26! and not Feb 1 as I read before!!! argh~ it is gonna be on FEB 1 NEXT YEAR...I feel so stupid... Anyways...it is very expensive...and I dunno why my credit card got rejected...so I'm gonna buy it tomorrow maybe with my sis' card, or my debit card -.- I just hope the tickets dont get sold out tomorrow morning..I would be so pissed :@

In my AD class, Jessie took my ipod and asked me what was it. It was playing Camila, and she asked me to translate it for her... ahhhh it is so hard xD doesn't sound that "feeling/emotional"when you translate it. Anyway, I'm going with her tomorrow afternoon to Dumbo in Brooklyn :) we are going to an awesome bookstore, and then we are going to a restaurant/bar to have some dinner and play pool x) sounds fun! And on Sunday, we are going w/ Patty to Magnolia!!! ahhhhh famous for their cupcakes..and Jessie says they have the best cheesecake ever! even better than Cheesecake factory O.o holy .... I need to try it!
